SUMMARY:Fossil Fuels\, Air Quality\, & Transportation Committee
DESCRIPTION:California has some of the worst air pollution in the country. This committee focuses on the human health threats associated with poor air quality that is caused by our fossil fuel economy\, which includes drilling for oil\, relying on fossil fuels for energy\, and fossil fuel-driven vehicles. In order to improve air quality and decrease greenhouse gases that cause climate change\, this committee focuses on policies and practices that will stop drilling in the state\, accelerate the electrification of all vehicles (cars\, school buses\, trucks\, ships)\, and move towards a fossil fuel-free economy. The Committee members work collaboratively with the American Lung Association and the Last Chance Alliance Coalition. \n\n\n\n\n\nTeam meetings are ongoing and meets every Fourth Tuesday of Every Month @ 4:00 pm PST. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nGet Involved Now!

SUMMARY:Farmworker\, Pesticides\, Food & Agriculture Committee
DESCRIPTION:California provides the country and world with food and yet\, many Californians are food and nutrition insecure. In many instances\, the process of growing and raising food creates human and ecological health risks. We have more farmworkers in CA than any other state and\, by any metric of the social determinants of health\, our farmworkers are failing. This committee focuses on bringing healthy\, sustainably grown/raised foods to all people to achieve nutrition security for all by a food system that respects and cares for all the people working in the food chain\, especially farmworkers. We also have a particular focus on pesticide exposures for farmworkers\, farm communities\, and agricultural pesticide spraying near schools.  Committee members work with the United Farmworkers\, the Center for Farmworker Families\, Safe Ag/Safe Schools coalition on local efforts\, and the California Climate and Agriculture Network\, Californians for Pesticide Reform\, and the Food and Farm Resilience Coalition on statewide issues. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTeam meetings are ongoing and meets every Third Thursday of Every Month @ 10:00 am PST. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nGet Involved Now!

SUMMARY:Disaster Preparedness Committee
DESCRIPTION:Fires\, floods\, extreme heat\, and the ever-present threat of earthquakes demand that communities have disaster plans and that individuals are prepared for all hazards.  This committee focuses on the integration of disaster preparedness content into nursing school curriculum\, local health department trainings\, and hospital-based nursing practice.  We have worked with local health departments and unions\, including offering day-long training programs to targeted audiences\, like the Nurses Alliance of Service Employees International Union.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTeam meetings are ongoing and meets every Third Tuesday of Every Month @ 10:00 am PST. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nGet Involved Now

SUMMARY:Toxic Chemical Committee
DESCRIPTION:Chemicals are used or applied to many of the products we interact with everyday\, from cleaning products to clothing and furniture. While not all chemicals are toxic\, some substances have the ability to become a physical or health hazard. There are classes of chemicals that resist degradation in the environment and bioaccumulate in fat tissue\, bones\, and the brain when consumed. Others are toxic at extremely low levels. The Toxic Chemical Committee focuses on educating nurses on potential exposures and supporting stronger protections against chemicals known to cause harm. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTeam meetings are ongoing and meets every Second Tuesday of Every Month @ 3:00 pm PST. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nGet Involved Now!

SUMMARY:Greening Hospitals Committee
DESCRIPTION:While we would like to think that hospitals are safe places to work\, the truth is that there are chemical\, biological and radiological exposures of concern\, as well as an array of physical safety issues (sharps\, ergonomic issues\, and threats of violence). Additionally\, hospitals are huge consumers of energy and a wide range of products\, including food products\, and produce an enormous amount of waste. This committee is working on several occupational health risks to nurses\, including contaminants found in N95 and KN95 masks and exposures associated with splitting and crushing medications. Committee members are also working on a range of hospital sustainability efforts regarding purchasing and waste.  Members of the Committee work with Health Care Without Harm.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTeam meetings are ongoing and meets every Second Monday of Every Month @ 4:00 pm PST. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nGet Involved Now!
